Both Willborn and Zeng turned in solid performances over the weekend at the Tennessee Invitational, which saw the Duke women take second and the men fourth in a field that included four nationally-ranked teams.
Willborn paced the Blue Devil women on the three-meter springboard Friday, taking second overall with an NCAA Zones qualifying award of 297.55. The junior from Flower Mound, Texas also led Duke with a second-place finish on the platform (224.25) Saturday and was third in Thursday’s one-meter competition (263.55).
Zeng continued what has been an impressive rookie campaign by recording top-three showings as well on all three disciplines in Knoxville. He headlined the Blue Devil men in Friday’s one-meter competition, taking second with a finals score of 345.75. Zeng was also third on the three-meter board (373.65) and on the platform (309.45). He surpassed the NCAA Zones qualification standards in all three events, while his platform score ranked as the sixth-highest in program history.
Willborn, Zeng and the Blue Devils return to the pool Jan. 12, 2018 in a dual meet at Queens University of Charlotte.
