DURHAM, N.C. – Entering his sixth season at Duke, head coach Chris Pollard is excited to announce the signing of catcher Rudy Maxwell to a National Letter of Intent. A product of Brentwood, Tenn., Maxwell bolsters the Blue Devils’ 12-player recruiting class set to arrive in Durham this coming fall.
“Rudy has a unique frame for a catcher in that he’s 6-4, 230 pounds,” said Pollard. “He has a lot of power as well as the ability to move out from behind the plate and play other positions defensively. Rudy has a tremendous hit tool and we believe he’s going to grow into a guy that projects to swing the bat with a lot of power at the ACC level.”
Maxwell has seen time behind the plate and at third base for Ensworth High School. This past season, he pulled in Division II-AA All-State honors from both the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Maxwell also garnered 2017 Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention accolades following his junior year. Perfect Game lists Maxwell as among its 500 top prospects in the 2018 recruiting class as well as the No. 81 overall catcher. In addition, the organization ranked Maxwell the No. 14 overall prospect and No. 2 catcher in the state of Tennessee.
GoDuke.com will feature each member of Duke’s 2018 recruiting class every Tuesday over the coming weeks.
