DURHAM, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Duke women’s basketball team defeated Liberty, 68-51, Friday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium. With the victory, head coach Joanne P. McCallie became the 15th fastest women’s basketball coach to reach 600 wins, accomplishing it in only 821 games. The Blue Devils improved to 11-2 on the season and 9-0 in Durham.

With her lone assist on the evening, fifth-year senior Lexie Brown became the only active player in the NCAA with over 1,500 points, 500 assists, 200 three-pointers and 250 steals.

Brown and redshirt sophomore Haley Gorecki once again paced the Blue Devil offense with 26 and 17 points, respectively.

Brown finished the contest going 8-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-4 from behind the arc and picked up four rebounds and garnered four steals. With today’s outing, Brown is the only player in the ACC to post five straight 20-plus point games.

Gorecki went 3-of-7 from three-point land, tallied four assists, two steals and one block, finishing the contest collecting double-digit scoring for the fourth straight game and seventh time in her career.

Sophomore Leaonna Odom got things started with a big swat down low, good for her 23rd of the season as she finished the contest with a career-high six. Odom followed up her block with a nice defensive board and went the distance with a nice spin move in the paint to put Duke up by four. Liberty wasted no time connecting from behind the arc as they shot 37.5 percent from three-point land in the first frame and kept Duke silent from downtown. Duke led 15-13 after the first 10 minutes of action.

Brown registered her first trey of the contest before either team could connect for nearly three and a half minutes. Fifth-year senior Bego Faz Davalos notched her first points of the night with a jumper on the elbow to extend Duke’s lead to eight. The Blue Devils shot 72.2 percent (8-of-11) from the floor in the second quarter, good for a school record showing.

Entering the half, Brown led all scorers with 14 while Gorecki had nine through the first 20 minutes.

Duke kept Liberty scoreless for nearly five minutes as the Blue Devils held a 60-37 lead after the third frame.

As a team, the Blue Devils blocked a season-high eight shots in the first half and went on to finish the contest with 12. Odom (6), Faz Davalos (4), Gorecki (1) and Erin Mathias (1) each registered blocks on the evening.

The Blue Devils will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to open ACC action Sunday, Dec. 31. The contest will be broadcast at 12:30 p.m., on ACC Network Extra.
