DURHAM, N.C. – An impressive second day of competition at the Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational saw Blue Devil swimmers set Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion records in five events and add one program and one meet record.

Duke began Saturday evening’s session with a pair of victories in the 200-yard medley relay events. Junior Mickayla Hinkle, freshman Halle Morris, sophomore Alyssa Marsh and junior Hunter Aitchison combined to take the women’s race at 1:40.16 before the men’s relay of junior Max St. George, freshman Adam Zimmer, sophomore Noah Stevens and senior Nick Bigot took down the existing Taishoff benchmark in the men’s event with a time of 1:26.66 – good for the sixth-fastest in program history.

Senior Anna Quinn collected a win in the women’s 100 butterfly, shaving time off her preliminaries swim in a 54.91 evening performance. Sophomore Daichi Matsuda (50.15) led a one-two finish in the same event on the men’s side, with Noah Stevens taking second (50.61).

In the women’s 200 freestyle, senior Verity Abel matched the facility record set by NC State’s Elise Haan during preliminaries, going a career-best 1:47.57 in finals for a first-place finish. Sophomore Kylie Jordan was second (1:49.45) and freshman Carly Perri third (1:50.56). The Blue Devils swept the top two spots in the same event on the men’s side, with sophomore Sheldon Boboff taking first (1:38.83) and freshman Nathaniel Hartley second (1:39.40).

Another Taishoff record fell in the women’s 100 breaststroke, as junior Susan Hynes took down the previous mark with a 1:01.59 finals swim. That moved her into fourth on the program’s all-time performance list. Freshman Connie Dean was second overall (1:02.53) and senior Catie Miller came in third (1:03.18). Marsh added a final individual victory for Duke in the women’s 100 backstroke (54.74), with senior Maria Sheridan finishing just behind her in second (56.28).

During preliminaries, senior Leah Goldman earned a Taishoff and meet record in the women’s 100 butterfly at 53.01 and Dean reset the program and facility records in the women’s 400 individual medley with a swift 4:12.40 clocking.

The Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational returns to Chapel Hill and North Carolina’s Koury Natatorium Sunday, with preliminaries slated for 10 a.m. and finals for 5 p.m. Live results will be available here and on the Meet Mobile app.
