DURHAM, N.C. –The 10th-ranked Duke women’s fencing team closed out the annual Duke Meet Sunday afternoon in Card Gymnasium. The Blue Devil women now own a season record of 18-7 (1-0 ACC) after their 3-1 showing.

On the day, the Duke women logged victories against ACC foe North Carolina (16-11), seventh-ranked Temple (16-11), Brandeis (24-3) and fell to third-ranked Penn State (15-12).

“I am very happy,” head coach Alex Beguinet said. “Yesterday, the men fenced very well and the girls fenced very well today. There is great cohesion between the teams that provides for good support and their fencing is really improving. I am very happy with the results from both days.”

Pacing the Blue Devils Sunday was junior All-American epeeist Camille Esnault with a 9-3 overall ledger followed by fellow classmate Claudia Wrampelmeier with seven victories.

Freshman Julia Gianneschi led the foil squad with seven victories on the day while junior Rhiannon Harvey tallied a perfect 4-0 ledger.

For the saberists, senior Haley Fisher and sophomore Lindsay Sapienza each had six wins.

Select Blue Devils will be back in action Friday, Feb. 16-19, for the USFA Junior Olympics Championships in Memphis, Tenn.

“Notre Dame was not able to come to the Duke Meet because of the snow in Chicago,” Beguinet said. “At ACCs last year, we lost to them by one bout. This year, I think they will be ready for us but we will certainly be ready for them.”
