GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Duke men’s swimming and diving team opened action at the 2018 ACC Championships with a pair of relay performances that ranked among some of the fastest in program history.

Junior Max St. George, junior Sean Tate, sophomore Miles Williams and junior Yusuke Legard got the meet started in the 200-yard medley relay. The group combined for a seventh-place finish, with the mark of 1:25.99 ranking fourth on the Blue Devils’ all-time performance list.

Williams, Tate and Legard returned to the water an hour later, joining teammate Sheldon Boboff on the Blue Devils’ 800 freestyle relay. The quartet clocked the second-fastest time in school history at 6:25.97 to finish 10th. In addition, Williams broke the program record in the 200 freestyle with his leadoff split of 1:35.03. That reset the mark set by Spencer Booth in 2011.

Team point totals Wednesday also included the results of last week’s three-meter diving competition, which saw the Blue Devils net 67 points. Sophomore Nathaniel Hernandez (344.90) and junior Evan Moretti (341.85) both represented Duke in the event finals, while freshman Teddy Zeng (315.05) and junior Josh Owsiany (300.45) were 13th and 19th, respectively, in preliminaries.

The Blue Devil men sit third in the team standings through the first three events of the meet, behind only NC State (158) and Florida State (157) with 147 points.

Thursday’s events at the ACC Championships include preliminaries and finals of the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle, as well as finals of the 200 freestyle relay. Preliminaries kick off at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m., with the finals session slated to be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Live results will also be available.
