Charlie Gelman, a member of the Duke class of 2021 and enrolled in Duke’s prestigious Pratt School of Engineering, has joined the Duke staff as a statistical analyst for the Blue Devils. He intends to major in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a second major in Computer Science and a certificate in Markets and Management.
As advanced statistics analyst, Gelman uses his program to help create success for the team and individual wrestlers. His program recognizes strengths and weaknesses for Duke wrestlers to see, which allows them to make their practice routines as efficient as possible at becoming a better overall wrestler.
His program is also used to scout opponents, which finds strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies in the wrestlers that toe the line against Duke. This allows Duke wrestlers and coaches to be confident when the wrestlers step onto the mat.
Gelman wrestled before for Hinsdale Central High School, who is coached by legendary head coach Jason Hayes and assistant coach James Leavell. After Gelman’s career-ending injury in high school, he decided to help his high school team as captain and student assistant coach, which prompted him to create his program.
