DURHAM, N.C. - The brooms were broken out Sunday afternoon at the Duke Softball Stadium, as the Duke Blue Devils (16-10, 3-3 ACC) scored late to seal a 1-0 victory against the Boston College Eagles (9-15, 0-3 ACC) and earn the first series sweep in program history.

After five scoreless innings that featured dominant pitching on both sides, the Blue Devils broke through in the sixth behind back-to-back leadoff singles and a BC fielding error. Jameson Kavel got things started by ripping a single through the right side before Dominique Salinas perfectly executed a slap base hit that bounced over the head of the third baseman and into left. A fielder's choice would put the go-ahead run 60 feet away with two outs and bring up Jill Ferraro to the plate. BC could not handle Ferraro's grounder to the second baseman and Duke capitalized on the error to score Kavel and take a 1-0 advantage.

Peyton St. George (4-2), who entered the contest in the fifth after a leadoff single for the Eagles, worked around a two-out base hit in the top of the seventh to secure the victory. When it was all said and done, St. George threw 3.0 innings of shutout softball, striking out a pair of batters and only allowing two hits to seal her third-straight win of the weekend. For the series, St. George was 3-0 in a total of 8.2 innings of work, not allowing a single run and fanning five batters. She also tallied a trio of hits, including a double in the series opener Friday night.

It was a quick start to Sunday's series finale, as both sides went three up, three down in the first. The Eagles came close to plating the game's first run in the second, pushing runners to second and third with two outs behind two of their seven hits on the day. However, Amelia Wiercioch forced BC to ground out to send it to the home half of the frame and end the threat.

Duke was held in check offensively for most of the contest, only tallying one hit before the sixth on a Brianna Butler single to center in the second. Wiercioch, who picked up her ninth start of the season in the circle, allowed five hits on the day, but only let a BC runner reach third once in that span.

The Blue Devils will get back on the road for a pair of midweeks before returning home for their third ACC series of the season. Duke travels to No. 18 South Carolina Tuesday, March 20 for a 6 p.m. ET contest on SEC Network Extra before taking on East Carolina Wednesday, March 21 at 5 p.m. on C-USA TV. Duke hosts Louisville this weekend, with first pitches set for 5 p.m. on Friday, 1 pm. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday. All three of those contests will be available on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through and the ESPN app.
