Duke at the NCAA Championships
The Blue Devil men will send representatives to the NCAA Championships for the ninth consecutive season and the 16th time overall this weekend in Minneapolis.

The Blue Devil men sent four swimmers and divers to the 2017 NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. Duke recorded 12 points to place 32nd in the final team standings behind Peter Kropp’s seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Moretti turned in a pair of top-25 performances in the one-meter and three-meter events while Hernandez was 36th in the platform preliminaries.

Successful Zones Meet for Duke Divers
Hernandez and Moretti secured return trips to the NCAA Championships with their performances in one-meter diving earlier this month at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Moretti was third in the one-meter final with a combined score of 709.75 points on 12 dives, while Hernandez locked up the sixth and final qualification spot in the one-meter event with 672.10 total points. Moretti also earned eligibility to compete on the three-meter board at NCAAs by virtue of his third-place showing on the one-meter and a top-12 finish in the three-meter competition.

The final day in Knoxville saw Hernandez and Moretti add platform to their list of eligible events at NCAAs. Moretti garnered automatic qualification with a seventh-place finish at 657.40 points and Hernandez recorded 649.70 points between preliminaries and finals to come in eighth.

Both Blue Devils are eligible for Thursday’s one-meter competition in Minneapolis, while Moretti is slated to compete in the three-meter event Friday. Saturday’s action at the NCAA meet includes preliminaries and finals of the platform event.

Strong Showing at ACC Championships
Blue Devils Hernandez and Moretti were also part of an impressive showing by the program’s divers at the 2018 ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Along with diving teammates Josh Owsiany and Teddy Zeng, the men’s divers combined for a league-high 212 points across the three disciplines.

Hernandez was sixth and Moretti seventh in the first event of the meet, the three-meter springboard. Moretti was back in a championship final on the second night, finishing fourth on the one-meter board. Hernandez then rounded out the meet with a sixth-place showing on the platform.
