CLEMSON, S.C. – The Duke rowing program turned in a strong Friday evening at the Clemson Invitational, highlighted by all five boats securing top-five finishes on the day in the V8, 2V8, 3V8, V4 and 2V4 races.
Duke’s 3V8 kicked off competition with a 6:44.16 mark that put them third behind No. 9 Virginia (6:34.75) and No. 15 Washington State (6:37.14).
Next on the water was the 2V4 taking second with a time of 7:16.26, trailing only No. 4 Ohio State (7:11.52) while holding off No. 17 Indiana (7:18.39) to hold on to second place.
Rowing to another third-place finish was Duke’s V4, which ended the evening race in 7:16.32 behind No. 17 Indiana (7:06.45) and No. 12 Wisconsin (7:09.73).
In the second-to-last race of the day, the Blue Devils’ 2V8 claimed fourth in a time of 6:40.07 as No. 12 Wisconsin (6:27.00), No. 17 Indiana (6:33.35) and Oregon State (6:37.92) rounded out the top-three spots.
Wrapping up the day was Duke’s V8 in a tight race for the top-three spots. The Blue Devils secured a second-place finish in 6:27.23, trailing only No. 12 Wisconsin (6:23.87) and edging out No. 17 Indiana (6:27.70) in a battle for second.
Saturday’s action begins at 8:30 a.m. with the V8.
