BARRANQUILLA, Colombia – Recent Duke University graduate Isabella Paez captured gold in the women’s 200-meter butterfly Sunday evening at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games (CACGs).

Representing her native country of Venezuela, Paez won the 200 butterfly ‘A’ final with a time of 2:11.26. Sunday’s showing marked her second individual ‘A’ final of the meet, as she also reached the top final Saturday in the 50 butterfly, where she finished fourth (27.11).

Sunday evening’s swimming events in Barranquilla also saw Paez compete on Venezuela’s 800 freestyle relay, which took fourth at 8:22.92.

Paez is slated to return to the pool Monday for the women’s 100 butterfly.

Duke’s program record holder in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.93), Paez was fourth in her marquee event at the 2018 ACC Championships and represented Duke in the 100 and 200 butterfly at the 2018 NCAA Championships.

Held every four years since 1926, the CACGs are a multi-sport competition involving countries in Central America, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico and the South American countries of Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela.
