FORT WORTH, Texas – Incoming freshman Maria Mateas continued her run at the Fort Worth Tennis Classic Friday afternoon by advancing to the semifinals of the singles main draw.
Mateas, a product of Braintree, Mass., battled back after falling in the first set and defeated Alexa Graham (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Christian University. Mateas will now face Dominique Schaefer Saturday afternoon.
Rising sophomore Kelly Chen also competed today in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw. After a tough three-and-a-half hour match, Chen came up just short against doubles partner Paige Hourigan (5-7, 7-6 , 7-5).
