DURHAM, N.C.— Only 23 days until the 2018-19 Duke women’s basketball season kicks off on the road at Northwestern. As the DWB countdown continues, we touch base with rookie Rayah Craig.

Our No. 23, Craig hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., and averaged 17.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals as a senior at Desert Mountain H.S. She tallied 1,528 points over four years of high school and was All Player of the Year and Desert Mount MVP in 2017.

GoDuke.com:  How has the transition been from high school to college basketball?
Rayah Craig:  It's been a lot different. As far as schooling-wise, you know it's just a lot more work but it's manageable. Basketball-wise it's a big change. In high school, it's very slow, you know. You kind of do your own thing. But here, the intensity is so much higher and you just have to compete all the time, like you don't have any breaks.

GD: You were able to spend some time at home this summer; what kind of stuff did you do over summer?
RC: While I was here, a lot of the weekends that we had off, I would go and do stuff with my mom. We went camping, we spent a weekend surfing at Myrtle Beach, stuff like that. And while I was at home, I mean, I didn't have too much time at home during the summer, but I kind of just spent time with my dad and my brother because I know I'm not going to see them until whenever they decide to come."

GD: What have you enjoyed most about this team or Duke so far?
RC: Probably how well we get along. I've never been on a team that's had so much chemistry and gotten along so well. I was kind of nervous coming in. I didn't really know anybody; I knew a couple people, but, like, I wasn't sure how the transition was going to go. But, I mean, immediately after meeting everybody, it was just a different connection that I've never had with any other team before.
