DURHAM, N.C. – Freshmen Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett combined 52 of Duke’s 106 points in a 106-64 exhibition victory over reigning CIAA champion Virginia Union Tuesday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Williamson finished with an efficient 29 points to pace the squad, shooting 11-of-13 from the field, while fellow freshman Barrett poured in 23 points—19 of which came in the first half. Three other Blue Devils in double figures were Cam Reddish (13), Jack White (11) and Alex O'Connell (10).
After a tight first few minutes, Duke reeled off a 25-9 run, which was highlighted by a pair of three pointers each from Barrett and Reddish to make it 35-19 with 7:10 remaining in the first half. The Blue Devils cruised into the locker room with a 52-36 lead at intermission.
Duke outscored the visitors 54-28 in the second period, shooting 66 percent (21-of-32) from the field to seal the exhibition win. The Blue Devils finished at a 58 percent (40-of-69) from the floor, assisting on 33 of their 40 made field goals.Jones led with a game-high nine assists, while Reddish had seven. In addition to shooting 11-of-13 from the field, Williamson was 7-of-7 at the free throw, added six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal.
Duke rounds out exhibition play Saturday, Oct. 27 when the Blue Devils welcome Ferris State to Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest is set for a 4 p.m. tipoff and will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.
