DURHAM, N.C.—Duke rookie Issa Rayyan continued his hot streak this past weekend with his fifth goal in six games to lead the Blue Devils to victory in their NCAA opening game and garner the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week award as well as a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week. Top Drawer Soccer also gave him an honorable mention nod for its Team of the Week.
Rayyan, the 2018 ACC Rookie of the Year, put away a shot in the 65th minute as Duke beat Pacific, 1-0, to advance to face Maryland in the third round Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. Seeing action in all 90 minutes in the Duke win, Rayyan finished his only shot attempt of the match. The team’s second leading scorer, Rayyan now owns six goals on the season for the Blue Devils (11-6-2).
The Michigan native has caught fire of late, scoring five goals in six games after netting just one in his first 13 contests. His 15 points this season are the most by a Duke freshman since Brody Huitema had 16 in 2013.
