DURHAM, N.C. – Members of the Duke fencing team are set to round out the 2018 campaign Dec. 15-17 at the December North American Cup (NAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Representing the squad will be junior Lindsay Sapienza, sophomore Maria Papadopoulos, redshirt sophomore Ben Stone and freshman Alex Gorman.
Papadopoulos will kick off the weekend Sunday in Division I Women’s Epee as the No. 70 seed. Papadopoulos is coming off a rookie campaign with a 46-30 overall ledger that included a 10th-place finish at the ACC Championships and a trip to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.
Stone will continue competition Sunday in Division I Men’s Saber and is seeded No. 26.
The Blue Devils’ time in Ohio will conclude Monday with Division I Women’s Saber as Sapienza and Gorman take the strips. Sapienza will compete in her first NAC of the season after leading the women’s saber squad with a 49-27 overall ledger last year. Gorman will compete for the first time this fall and is seeded No. 46 while Sapienza holds No. 56.
In addition to current Blue Devils, recent graduate and two-time All-America honoree Pascual Di Tella will also compete in Division I Men’s Saber and is seeded No. 29.
