WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Matt Wisner clocked a school-record time in the Elite 800m Saturday afternoon to close out the Camel City Invitational for the Duke track & field team in Winston-Salem, N.C.

“The school record wasn’t on my radar,” Wisner said. “I was more so focused on getting as close to 1:49.0 as I could because I knew I would have a good chance of qualifying for NCAAs with the conversion. It’s a great feeling. I beat some really great guys that a year or two ago would have never believed I could beat.”

Wisner, a product of Carlisle, Pa., crossed the finish line third in 1:49.22 and with the NCAA flat track conversion, the converted time is 1:47.68. Wisner’s finish currently leads the ACC and ranks eighth in the country. Wisner competed against some of the best in the country, including 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy, who won the event in 1:45.92.

Also competing in an Elite event this afternoon was senior Kim Hallowes in the Elite Mile. Hallowes finished eighth in 4:48.26. With the NCAA conversion, Hallowes clocked in a personal-best 4:45.56.

The distance squad concluded competition Saturday with a second-place finish in men’s distance medley relay. Devin Connell, Nick Cox, Joe Cullen and Michael Ungvarsky posted a time of 10:22.66.
