BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Duke track & field program closed action at the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships Saturday on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

The Blue Devil women concluded the weekend in fifth place with 60 points while the men finished in ninth with 30.5 points.

Duke registered three school records in the final day of competition in Blacksburg as Domonique Panton and Matt Wisner rewrote their own program records in the triple jump and 800m while India Lowe passed recent Duke graduate Maddy Price’s 400m record.

Leading the way for the women on Thursday and Friday was sophomore Erin Marsh who secured 16 points towards Duke’s overall team score. Saturday, Lowe picked up six individual points in the 400m and an additional six as a member of the 4x400m relay. The Blue Devil men collected nine points from Wisner and Charles Cooper and 8.5 points from the men’s pole vault competition.

Wisner ran in three races in three days and garnered first-team All-ACC accolades in the 800m and as a member of the third-place finishing distance medley relay (DMR). Wisner qualified for Saturday’s 800m final by winning his heat on Friday and today clocked a school-record time of 1:48.57 to capture bronze. Cooper clocked in at 1:49.39, the second-fastest time in Duke indoor history.

Panton registered five points with her school-record performance in the triple jump. The Freehold, N.J., native notched a mark of 12.90m to place just short of the podium in fourth place.

Lowe has been Duke’s top sprinter all indoor season and this evening clocked in at 53.24 in the 400m finals, securing her third school record in 2019.

Esteban Suarez and Cole Rowan added 8.5 points to the men’s team score with their performances in the pole vault competition. Suarez garnered a bronze medal with his tied for fourth-best clearance in Duke indoor history, 5.15m, while Rowan cleared two personal bests on his way to a tied for sixth place with a height of 4.95m.

Lowe teamed up with Brittany Aveni, Lauren Hoffman and MacKenzie Kerr to reach the podium with a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:38.38.

With the conference championships in the rearview mirror, qualifying Blue Devils will turn their attention to the NCAA Indoor Championships. The top 16 in each event will qualify and Marsh and Wisner are expected to advance following their individual performances this season.
