AUBURN, Ala. – Three Blue Devils punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships on the opening day of competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Monday at Auburn’s James E. Martin Aquatic Center.

Senior Evan Moretti qualified for NCAAs for the fourth consecutive season while senior Lizzie Fitzpatrick and freshman Maddi Pullinger both secured their first trips to the national meet.

An event finalist on the one-meter springboard at last month’s ACC Championships, Moretti advanced to Monday’s one-meter final with the third-highest score in preliminaries (360.75). He wrapped up his finals list in emphatic fashion, earning an award of 68.80 on a forward 2 ½ somersault with one twist to top the 700-point mark with his combined score (715.85). Moretti punched his ticket to Austin, Texas – the site of this year’s NCAA Championships – by placing third overall.

Junior Nathaniel Hernandez was ninth in the one-meter final with a combined score of 644.95, totaling 325.80 points in preliminaries and 339.15 points in finals.

Senior Josh Owsiany (273.90) and freshman Harel Anolick (252.80) competed in Monday morning’s one-meter preliminaries, finishing 19th and 26th, respectively.

Duke featured five divers in the women’s three-meter event, led by All-ACC performer Pullinger (316.05) and Fitzpatrick (314.55), both of whom qualified for finals with strong preliminaries showings. Needing a top-eight finish to advance to NCAAs, both Blue Devils remained in contention throughout finals, with Fitzpatrick coming in sixth overall (622.65) and Pullinger right behind her in seventh (618.00). Fitzpatrick topped the 54-point mark in rounds three, four and five and Pullinger went over the 60-point mark twice during her finals list to close out an impressive evening.

Senior Mackenzie Willborn was 23rd (263.25), sophomore Ellie Winslow 27th (247.40) and freshman Maddy Pfaff 35th (222.20) in the three-meter preliminaries.

The NCAA Zone B Diving Championships continue Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. with preliminaries and finals of the women’s one-meter and men’s three-meter springboard events. Live results will be available here.
