AUBURN, Ala. – Junior Nathaniel Hernandez placed fourth on the three-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Tuesday to secure a trip to the upcoming NCAA Championships.

Hernandez will make his third career appearance at nationals with his top-seven finish in the event final Tuesday evening. The Southlake, Texas native was the fourth Blue Devil to punch his ticket to Austin after seniors Lizzie Fitzpatrick and Evan Moretti and freshman Maddi Pullinger all earned qualification on the opening day of competition Monday.

Hernandez was fourth (362.95) and Moretti 11th (343.65) in the three-meter preliminaries to advance to the event finals. Hernandez then went over 400 points in finals, topping the 70-point mark on his second and sixth dives. He finished fourth in the field with his combined award of 771.15, while Moretti was sixth (736.40).

By virtue of his top-12 finish on the three-meter board, Moretti is eligible to compete on both springboard events at NCAAs.

Freshman Harel Anolick placed 24th (295.15) and senior Josh Owsiany 28th (269.55) in the three-meter preliminaries.

Pullinger secured NCAA qualification in her second event in as many days, nabbing one of nine available spots in the women’s one-meter event. She was one of three Blue Devils to advance to finals, where she took fourth overall with a combined score of 578.80. An All-ACC performer in the event at last month’s conference championship, Pullinger twice surpassed the 50-point mark on dives in finals to close out another strong outing.

Seniors Mackenzie Willborn (546.15) and Fitzpatrick (517.40) joined Pullinger in the one-meter final, coming in 11th and 18th, respectively. Also representing Duke in the event preliminaries were sophomore Ellie Winslow (224.60) and freshman Maddy Pfaff (215.25).

The Blue Devils round out action at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Wednesday, with both the men and women competing on the platform. Preliminaries get underway at 10 a.m., with live results available throughout the day on divemeets.com.
