DURHAM, N.C. – The 2V8 crew for the No. 20 Duke rowing team was named ACC Crew of the Week for its first-place finish in the Cooper Sprints last Sunday.
The 2V8 boat of Tara Fagan (Cox), Lelia Boley (Stroke), Reed Kenny, Kiernan Spencer, Sydney Cikovic, Meera Chakrabarti, Rhea Bergman, Laura Navarrete and Gabriella Salvati (Bow) took first in the highly competitive field in Cherry Hill, N.J. The boat clocked a time of 6:39.06, nearly three seconds faster than second-place SMU (6:42.99). Prior to the grand final, the 2V8 team took first in heat three with a time of 6:45.46, the best heat time among all 15 schools by nearly eight seconds.
This is the second time in three weeks that a Duke boat has been recognized as ACC Crew of the Week. The 2V4 boat of Sarah Royka (Cox), Spencer (Stroke), Amelia Johnson, Maya Blake and Amelia Shunk (Bow) earned the honor for their first-place finish in the Carolina Cup on March 9.
The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday, April 6 for the BIG-Ten ACC Dual in Charlottesville, Va.
