DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke track & field program traveled to Raleigh, N.C., to open the Raleigh Relays Friday at the Paul Derr Track and posted several ACC qualifying performances.

Today’s action was highlighted by junior Ben Beatty’s huge personal-best mark in the shot put. Beatty was the lone Blue Devil competing in the shot put competition and posted a second-place finish with a mark of 17.62m (57-9.75), the fifth-best toss in Duke history. Beatty’s previous personal best was 16.43m as he posted an ACC qualifying mark Friday.

Cassie Martin also saw a solid day in her field event, the high jump. Martin tied her personal-best clearance of 1.71m to win the collegiate high jump event.

Several other Blue Devils posted personal-best performances in the opening day of the Raleigh Relays.

In the men’s 5000m, CJ Ambrosio and Josh Romine clocked personal-bests as Ambrosio finished in 14:15.31 for an ACC qualifying mark and Romine crossed the finish line in 14:34.61. Ambrosio posted a 30 second PR.
