DURHAM, N.C. – Duke rowing senior Shannon Tierney has been invited to partake in the 2019 USRowing Under 23 Men’s and Women’s National Team Selection Camp this summer.

Led by Virginia’s head coach Kevin Sauer, the women’s camp will select the U23 women’s eight, four, quadruple sculls and four with coxswain that will compete at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 24-28. The camp also will select a pair to race at USRowing’s Under 23 World Championship Trials in early July. The camp will be held at the Thomas Temple Allan Boathouse in Charlottesville, VA.

“It is an honor to be invited to the U23 National Team camp and have the opportunity to train with the top U23 athletes from across the country,” said Tierney. “I’m looking forward to a great summer with the goal of representing team USA in the most elite caliber.”

“Shannon is going to have a great summer,” said head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno. “She’s gained a tremendous amount of speed from last year, and I’m excited for her opportunity. Shannon is the ultimate teammate and competitor. She is the foundation of so much of our success.”

Tierney sits in the V8 boat, where she has helped the Blue Devils take first at the Carolina Cup and second at the Cooper Sprints this season.

Duke next competes at the two-day Clemson Invite Friday, April 19 and concludes the Invitational Saturday, April 20.
