DURHAM, N.C. – One of the best to play on the Duke women’s soccer backline is officially joining the professional ranks, as Chelsea Burns has inked a contract with PSV Vrouwen in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Burns becomes the 25th Blue Devil to sign a professional contract and the second from the 2018 senior class, joining Kayla McCoy, who officially signed with the NWSL’s Houston Dash in mid-April. The Jacksonville, Fla., native joins two-time All-ACC honoree Kim DeCesare as the second Blue Devil to play for PSV.

Leading the Blue Devil backline in her final year in the Blue and White, Burns once again made her presence known to opposing offenses during the 2018 season. Her leadership was key in Duke racking up 11 clean sheets on the season, packing the squad to its eighth-straight appearance in the NCAA Round of 16. Burns finished her career with 95 games played, which was tied for third amongst active career leaders in the NCAA.

A member of the winningest senior class in program history, Burns finished her career with her name scattered throughout the Duke record book. Burns led Duke’s defense to 54 shutouts over her career, the best four-year stretch in that category in program history, highlighted by a program-record 18 clean sheets in 2017. Burns also contributed on the offensive end, racking up eight career goals, with four off of penalty kicks. Those four are second in the DWS career record book.

The senior wrapped up her time at Duke a stud in the classroom as well, leaving with one CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team nod (2017), three ACC Honor Roll mentions (2016-18) and landing on the ACC All-Academic Team in 2017.
