DURHAM, N.C. – Senior attacker Ella Bonafede scored with two seconds left on the clock to wrap up a 26-13 Senior Day victory over VCU for the 13th-ranked Blue Devils.

The 26 goals marked a program record, while senior Olivia Jenner and sophomore Charlotte North surpassed individual milestones as Duke rounded out the regular season at 11-8.

Jenner registered 20 of the Blue Devils’ 34 draw controls on the day, setting a program single-game record. The 20 draw controls also marked the third-most notched by any Division I player in a game this season. Duke’s all-time draw controls leader, Jenner topped 500 draws for her career, rounding out the contest at 512, and surpassed her own program season record with 150 through 19 contests.

North matched her own program single-game record with eight tallies in the win. She also surpassed the 100-point mark for the season to break former Tewaaraton Award winner Katie Chrest Erbe’s program season record of 96 points.

Despite getting out to a slow start against the Rams, the Blue Devils received early momentum from North, who broke Chrest Erbe’s season points record with her first goal at the 25:25 mark. North added three more tallies inside the opening 10 minutes to give Duke a 6-4 lead.

Seniors Jenner and Ellie Majure connected for a tally before Jenner reached the 500-draw control mark for her career with her eighth of the afternoon. The first team All-ACC selection also tacked on a pair of goals as the Blue Devils outscored VCU 7-1 in the final 12 minutes of the half to take a 16-8 advantage into the intermission.

Freshman midfielder Olivia Rubin secured a hat trick early in the second half and a ground ball by senior defender Michelle Staggers set up North for her eighth marker of the contest. Junior attacker Catherine Cordrey also chimed in with her third tally and Bonafede’s goal rounded out the double-digit victory.

Senior goalkeeper Jamie Lockwood posted six saves in just over 45 minutes of action between the pipes. Freshman midfielder Veronica Hineman finished with a game-high three caused turnovers and was one of eight Blue Devils with multiple tallies.

Duke outshot the Rams, 39-23, with 35 of those looks on goal. Behind the play of Jenner, the Blue Devils dominated the draw, 34-6.

Sky Hyatt had five goals and Savannah Slack three for VCU in the loss.

At the conclusion of the contest, Duke honored seniors Bonafede, Jenner, Chloë Lewis, Lockwood, Majure, Staggers and Charlotte Tucci for their contributions and dedication to the program over the past four years.

“There’s nothing more that I enjoy than being on the field with my teammates and being with the people in my class I’ve been with throughout the four years,” Jenner said. “This is a class that’s been through a lot and for us to have one last moment on Koskinen was something that we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.”
