Duke On Homecoming
The Blue Devils hold an all-time ledger of 35-45-1 in Homecoming games ... Duke has hosted Virgina five times for Homecoming, posting a 1-4 record.

The Duke-Virginia Series
Saturday’s tilt will mark the 58th time that Duke and Virginia have met on the gridiron, with the Cavaliers holding a slim 30-27 series advantage ... Duke and Virginia first met in 1890 — a 10-4 Cavalier victory ... Virginia has won six in a row and 15 of the last 17 meetings over the Blue Devils ... Duke enjoyed success against the Cavaliers in the 1960s and 70s, winning 14-of-17 games from 1961-78.

Duke head coach Ted Roof went 2-1-1 against Virginia during his playing days at Georgia Tech (1982-85) and was 4-0 versus Groh’s Demon Deacon clubs during that stretch ... Virginia head coach Al Groh spent six seasons (1981-86) as the head coach at Wake Forest, going 2-4 versus Duke ... Duke linebacker Andrew Holoman’s father, Bryan, lettered in football at Virginia from 1978-81 ... Duke offensive tackle Jerrod Holt’s brother, Joe, played at Virginia in the early 2000s.

  • 1891: Duke closes out a perfect 3-0 season with a 20-0 win over Virginia ... The Blue Devils had beaten Furman (96-0) and North Carolina (6-4) previously in the season.
  • 1943: In the first meeting since 1930, Duke upends Virginia, 49-0, on its way to an 8-1 record.
  • 1961: Duke wins 42-0 to post its second largest victory margin in an ACC game.
  • 1982: In Duke’s 51-17 win, the Blue Devils compile 621 yards of total offense — the fifth highest single-game total in school history.
  • 1988: Duke’s Anthony Dilweg throws for 391 yards and three touchdowns and Duke holds on for a 38-34 win after building a 31-7 halftime lead.
  • 1992: Virginia’s Terry Kirby rushes for 207 yards as the Cavaliers win in Durham, 55-28.
  • 1994: In Duke’s last win over a nationally-ranked team, the 23rd-ranked Blue Devils down 13th-ranked Virginia, 28-25 ... Spence Fischer throws for 236 yards and the Duke defense intercepts three passes in the win.
  • 1995: Current offensive coordinator Mike Groh passes for 346 yards and four TDs in the Cavaliers’ 44-30 win.
  • 1999: Duke’s Carl Franks gains his first head coaching win with a 24-17 overtime decision in Charlottesville ... Spencer Romine tosses a touchdown pass in overtime and Lamar Grant seals the victory with an interception.
  • 2002: Despite being held to just two net rushing yards, Virginia edges Duke, 27-22, as Matt Schaub throws for 315 yards.
