ATLANTA, Ga. – Sophomore Anima Banks, competing in the final event before the NCAA first round meet in two weeks, clocked the fourth-fastest 800-meter time in Duke history at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., Saturday afternoon.

Banks, a product of Mamaroneck, N.Y., placed third in the women’s 800, running a time of 2:05.80. Banks previously held a personal-best time of 2:06.74, run at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., earlier this season. The time currently ranks 30th in the nation at the distance.

Freshman Haley Meier and sophomore Madison Granger joined Banks in the competition, as Meier ran a collegiate personal-best time of 2:09.44, placing her eighth overall. The finishing time marks the second personal-record for Meier this weekend, as the Grosse Point Farms, Mich., native clocked a personal-best time of 4:21.03 one day earlier in the 1,500. Granger, competing in her first collegiate 800, finished 25th overall in a time of 2:13.19.

The NCAA first round meet begins Thursday, May 29, in Jacksonville, Fla., and runs until Saturday, May 31. A full list of declared competitors will be released later this week.
