PORTLAND, Ore. – The second day of the USTA Collegiate Invitational concluded on Saturday at the Tualatan Hills Tennis Center in Portland, Ore., with Duke’s Ester Goldfeld and Hanna Mar each carding singles wins.
The 24th-ranked Mar lost only one game on Saturday in singles play as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Courtney Dolehide of UCLA. Mar also teamed with Alyssa Smith and totaled an 8-6 win over Lina Pademigaite and Elisabeth Begley of Texas in doubles.
Goldfeld, who is out of Brooklyn, N.Y., collected a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Alexandra Letzt of USTA. Both Goldfeld and Mar improved to 2-0 on the weekend in singles action. In doubles play, Goldfeld and Annie Mulholland dropped an 8-4 decision to Peggy Porter and Terri Fleming of USTA.
In other singles play, Marianne Jodoin fell, 6-3, 6-0, to Porter of USTA, Smith dropped a three-set thriller, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, to Sammi Hampton of USTA and Mulholland lost, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to Erica Oosterhout of USTA.
Sunday will conclude play in Portland, Ore., with five singles matches starting at 11:00 a.m. (EST) Mulholland, Smith, Jodoin, Mar and Goldfeld will see action. A wildcard shootout will follow at 3:15 p.m.
