MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Junior Austin Cody fired a one-under 70 Monday to move into 10th place at the Bash at the Beach. Turner Southey-Gordon and Motin Yeung each shot one-over 73s and are now tied for 28th in the event at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
Callum Tarren (Radford) holds the tournament lead with a seven-under 135 with McKay Tye (High Point) one shot back. Weston Eklund (Radford) is third with a four-under 138, while Rich Leeper and Trey Smith of James Madison along with Brett McKinnon (Jacksonville) and Conner Hayden (Radford) tied for fourth at three-under.
Cody is 10th overall after posting rounds of 71 and 70. He is one of 10 players under-par for the tournament. Cody has been outstanding on the par 5s at the Surf Golf and Beach Club ranking second in the tournament in par 5 scoring at four-under with one eagle. He is also tied for second overall with 25 pars.
Southey-Gordon and Yeung have shot identical rounds of 74 and 73. Yeung ranks among the tournament leader with seven birdies through two rounds, while Southey-Gordon has been steady throughout the tournament with 23 pars over the first 36 holes of play.
Final round action begins with an 8 am shotgun start. The Duke trio is competing in the event as individuals and are not eligible for the team title.
Radford holds the tournament lead with a 555 (-13), 10 shots better than Jacksonville. Western Kentucky is third with a six-over 574.
