INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Action began at the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex, with junior Lauren Weaver representing the Blue Devil women in the 50-yard freestyle.

An All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in the event after taking third at last month’s conference championships, Weaver clocked 22.69 Thursday to finish 36th in the event preliminaries.

Weaver closes out the 2012-13 season as Duke’s top performer in the sprint freestyle events. She established new school records in the 50 (22.27) and the 100 freestyle (50.18) at the ACC Championships, in addition to helping rewrite the program record books in the 200 freestyle (1:30.56), 400 freestyle (3:21.43), 200 medley (1:39.80) and 400 medley (3:40.54) relays.

“We couldn’t be more proud of what Lauren has accomplished all season long,” said head coach Dan Colella. “She’s been a dominating force in the 50 free all season. What she’s accomplished this season will motivate and excite her for the coming year.”

Teammate Christine Wixted will take to the pool Friday, March 22 in the 100 breaststroke. Trials begin at 11 a.m. in Indianapolis, with the finals session at 7 p.m. scheduled to be broadcast live on ESPN3. Live results will also be available throughout the day.
