DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Turner Southey-Gordon finished in second place and freshman Motin Yeung tied for third, as four members of the Duke men’s golf team completed play in the shortened Heel Devil Individual Sunday at the Duke University Golf Club.
After play was cancelled Saturday due to poor weather conditions, Southey-Gordon posted an even-par, 72, to place second, while Yeung finished in a tie for third after carding a one-over par, 73. Senior Tim Gornick fired a three-over par, 75, to finish tied for seventh, while junior Yaroslav Merkulov completed his round with a 10-over round of 82.
Charlotte’s Daniel Brantley won the event with a one-under, 71, as he was the only player to finish the round under par in the extremely wet and windy conditions.
The first round of play at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C., was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, but the event was shortened to 18 holes following the cancellation.
