CARY, N.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team concluded play at the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Cary Tennis Park.
After downing NC State’s Robbie Mudge in two sets in Saturday’s singles quarterfinals, 22nd-ranked and third-seeded Michael Redlicki edged 87th-ranked Joran Vliegen of East Carolina in the first set of his semifinal match Sunday. However, Vliegen went on to take the next two sets, advancing to Monday’s final with a 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-2 win.
Redlicki now owns a fall ledger of 9-4 in singles action.
In doubles, the 11th-ranked and top-seeded tandem of Redlicki and junior Jason Tahir reached the doubles semifinals after battling to an 8-7 (6) victory over seventh-seeded Brett Clark and Ronnie Schneider Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devil tandem then faced 10th-seeded Robbie Mudge and Sean Weber of NC State for a spot in the regional final, but had their run in the tournament cut short in an 8-4 loss to the Wolfpack.
The ITA Carolina Regional will wrap up Monday in Cary with the singles and doubles championship matches at 10 a.m.
Duke will resume play Nov. 8-10 at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Bradenton, Fla.
