GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior Turner Southey-Gordon and freshman Alexander Matlari posted eight-over 221s to tie for 10th at the East Carolina Pirate Intercollegiate. Southey-Gordon fired a three-over 74, while Matlari shot a four-over 75 at the 6,656-yard, par 71 Brook Valley Country Club Tuesday to close out the event.

Southey-Gordon and Matlari both recorded their first top 10 finishes of the season. Matlari, a native of Leimen, Germany, played the par 3s and par 5s at Brook Valley CC at two-under for the tournament, while also finishing tied for second in the field with 10 birdies. Southey-Gordon ranked among the tournament leaders in par 4 scoring at +5.

Senior Austin Cody finished tied for 39th with an 88-72-76=236. The North Charleston, S.C., native had nine birdies in the tournament but was knocked back by an opening round 88. Freshman Andrew Bieber tied for 51st with a 248 (78-81-89).

Presbyterian claimed the team title with a 33-over 885, five shots better than Towson and nine shot clear of host East Carolina. Duke did not compete in the team competition as Southey-Gordon, Matlari, Cody and Bieber were in the field as individuals. Eric Brady of East Carolina earned medalist honors with a two-over 215 (72-72-71), while Dan Hendry (Charlotte) and Devin Terry (Navy) tied for second with four-over 217s.

Duke returns to action Feb. 10-11 at The Farms Collegiate Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
