CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Shortstop Anthony Melchionda broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run double and Boston College went on to defeat Duke 14-2 on Saturday afternoon at Commander Shea Field in the season finale for both teams.

Duke (21-34, 9-21 ACC) took advantage of two Boston College miscues in the opening frame, scoring on an error and on a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead.

Center fielder Tom Bourdon put the Eagles on the board with an RBI-single in the third, cutting the Duke lead to 2-1.

Right fielder Andrew Lawrence tripled with one out in the fourth and later scored on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Spenser Payne, tying the game at 2-2.

Boston College (22-33, 10-20 ACC) scored five runs in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Left fielder Marc Perdios had a one-out double down the left field line to get the inning going. After second baseman Blake Butera drew a walk, Bourdon singled through the right side to load the bases. Melchionda then cleared the bases with a three-run double into the left field corner. Two batters later, Lawrence hit a two-run homer to right.

The Eagles added four runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 11-2.

Designated hitter Rob Moir added a three-run homer in the eighth to account for the final margin.

Kyle Prohovich (2-3) earned the win after holding the Blue Devils to two unearned runs on three hits in five innings of work.

Designated hitter Jeff Kremer finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while center fielder Will Piwnica-Worms was 1-for-3 with a run in his final collegiate game. Right fielder Andrew Istler added a hit for the Blue Devils.

Robert Huber (4-6) took the loss on Saturday.
