Duke Athletics Leadership Book Club
Each semester a book focused on leadership development is selected for discussion in the biannual Leadership Book Club meetings. The book club is divided into both a staff and a coaches book club. This is an opportunity for colleagues to share insights and philosophies as well as address challenges and new ideas. A movie focused on leadership will be a new addition to this program.
Sport Psychologist Greg Dale and Chair of Health, Wellness, and Physical Education Scott Yakola hold monthly leadership lunches for staff. Topics range from communication and management styles to evaluations and professional growth of their own employees. Lunch is a shared expense.
Inter-Department Professional Teambuilding & Strategic Planning
Throughout the year, workshops are held with a variety of groups within the athletic department. The work with each group is comprised of 1/2 to 2-day workshops that focus on team building, team culture, and strategic planning. Sessions are interactive, engaging and educational based on specific needs of each group. PDPworks Personal Development Reports, a self-awareness tool, is often used in these workshops to highlight individual personality strengths and effective team communication strategies.
