AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Nick McCrory advanced through the preliminary and semifinal rounds to secure his place in the men’s 3-meter springboard final Wednesday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships, held at the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
McCrory totaled 446.00 points in the preliminary round before earning an award of 484.25 in the semifinal to bring his cumulative score to 930.25. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native stands in second place heading into the 12-spot final Saturday, Dec. 21, trailing only David Boudia, who leads the field with 961.60 points. Boudia and McCrory paired together to capture the bronze medal in men’s 10-meter platform synchronized diving at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
McCrory’s highest scoring dive of the day came in the semifinals, when he garnered 94.50 points on a reverse 3 ½ somersault in the tuck position in the fourth round.
