CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Duke swimmers turned in impressive relay performances Friday evening to round out the first of two days of action at the Cavalier Invitational, hosted by Virginia at the Fitness and Aquatic Center.

Senior Kelly Hagerty, graduate student Francesca Tocci, senior Tricia Leeson and junior Caroline Conklin won the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.17, edging teams from Penn and William & Mary. Hagerty clocked a personal-best of 23.25 from the leadoff position, surpassing her season-best in the 50 freestyle by over half a second. The 23.25 swim also ranks her third all-time in program history.

On the men’s side, the all-freshman relay of Benedict Parfit, Jack Carey, Kevin Fraser and Adriaan Venter took second while notching Duke’s second-fastest mark of the season in the event at 1:22.85.

The Blue Devils missed Friday morning’s session as inclement weather in the area impacted travel conditions throughout the second half of the week.

The Cavalier Invitational continues Saturday, Feb. 15 with preliminaries slated for 9 a.m. and finals for 5 p.m. Live results will be available for both sessions.
