PHILADELPHIA – The 120th running of the Penn Relays came to a close Saturday afternoon in front of a raucous crowd of 49,103 that packed Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The Blue Devils highlighted the final day of competition with a third-place finish in the college men’s 4x200 meter IC4A championship.

The third-place finishing relay of senior Marcus Wright, sophomore Robert Rohner, redshirt junior Issac Blakeney and redshirt freshman DeVon Edwards ran a time of 1:25.28. The relay’s finishing time was less than three-tenths of a second off the time run yesterday in the qualifying round.

Wright carried the baton as the first leg, handing to Rohner with the relay positioned in the top three. Rohner made up the stagger on the turn as the second leg and passed the baton to Blakeney with a slight lead. Blakeney, competing in the first 4x200 of his collegiate career, maintained Duke’s momentum, making the final baton pass to Edwards with the team in contention for the victory. Edwards ran the turn hard but was unable to hold off the anchor legs of East Carolina and University of Maryland Eastern Shore, crossing the line in third to conclude the relay.

A handful of Duke track and field members are scheduled to attend the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., next Sunday, May 4.
