DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling team turned in a dominant performance this evening to capture a convincing 30-13 victory over visiting Boston University in Card Gymnasium. The Blue Devils got pins in four weight classes to avenge last season's heartbreaking loss to the Terriers.

Duke pushes its win streak to two as it improves to 4-5 overall and to 2-0 at home. The victory over Boston University is the first in the program's three meetings with the Terriers. Boston University falls to 5-4 overall for the year.

"I think our guys really pushed the pace and we put [Boston University] in situations they don't want to be in," said head coach Glen Lanham. "It all starts with confidence and your ability to go offense and I felt like confidence tonight in our shots. Even the matches we lost we pushed the pace. I am pleased with our performance and like with anything there are things we have to correct still."

The Blue Devils, fresh off an exciting win over Appalachian State three days earlier, came out swinging and registered consecutive falls from redshirt freshman Trey Adamson and redshirt senior Diego Bencomo to take the early 12-0 lead. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Gambucci and redshirt freshman Marcus Cain both added pins in the victory.

The match started at 174 pounds with Adamson taking on Eric Des Lauries. Adamson scored a takedown in the first 32 seconds and needed just 28 more seconds to post his 12th win of the year and fourth fall of the campaign. Adamson, wrestling well lately, has won three of his previous four matches with all three victories giving the Blue Devils bonus points.

Bencomo followed suit at 184 pounds as he built an early 4-1 advantage in the first period against Alex Najjar. The Terrier sophomore pulled within one at the end of the second period before Bencomo escaped to start the final stanza. The Phoenix native quickly got Najjar on his back for the fall with 1:12 left to go in the match. The pin was the first for Bencomo as he improves to 8-9 overall for the year.

The winning continued for Duke at 197 pounds with Michael Chapman turning in perhaps the most exciting performance of the evening in a comeback 8-7 decision over Hunter Meys. Down 4-3 with Meys holding the bonus point for riding time going into the third period, Chapman executed perfectly in the final 40 seconds to come away with his second win of the year.

The redshirt freshman opened the third period with an escape to tie the bout 4-4. Still needing two points for the win, Chapman scored the crucial takedown with 37 seconds left to wrestle. Meys, 5-5 on the year, got a penalty point to keep his chances of winning alive and added an escape with 18 seconds to go to give him what looked to be the 7-6 victory. Chapman, however, never gave up and took one final shot and scored the winning takedown in the final two seconds to keep the Terriers off the scoreboard and stretch Duke's lead to 15-0.

Boston University came right back and pulled within nine, 15-6, with consecutive decision at 285 and 125. The Blue Devils regrouped and captured the next three bouts, including getting pins at 133 and 149 to make it 30-6 with two matches remaining.

Gambucci put Duke back on track with his sixth fall of the year after a tough first period against Bubba McGinley. The Mansfield, Ohio native fell behind early in the opening three minutes, but attacked from the opening whistle in the second and pinned McGinley with just 36 seconds to go in the second.

Tanner Hough, at 141 pounds, added three points to Duke's total with a hard-fought 3-1 decision over Dane Harlowe. Both Hough and McGinley traded penalty points throughout the first six minutes as they headed into the final minute even at 1-1. Looking for his 14th win of the year, Hough got the crowd on its feet in Card with a reversal in the final 40 seconds to post the narrow decision.

Cain closed out the run by the Blue Devils as he squeaked his pin of Nick Tourville just under the clock to give Duke the 30-6 lead. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native was in control from the opening whistle and built an 8-2 lead late in the third period before getting Tourville on his back and pinning the Terrier right as time expired.

BU finished the evening with a decision and major decision at 157 and 165, respectively, to make it a 30-13 final score.

The Blue Devils return to action next weekend at the Davidson Duals, Feb. 2. Duke returns home against Maryland Feb. 9 at 1 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
