WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Redshirt junior Cale Hammond and sophomore Josh Levine each advanced to championship matches in their respective singles draws Saturday, Oct. 12 on the second day of action at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational, held at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.

Hammond turned in a 7-5, 6-1 win over Stetson’s Chait Kapukiran in the semifinals of the B2 singles bracket, moving his fall ledger to 6-3. Next up, Hammond will face UNC Wilmginton’s Santtu Leskinnen Sunday, Oct. 13 in the title match.

Levine joined Hammond in collecting his third singles victory of the tournament, reaching the A1 singles final with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Martin Kobza of South Carolina State. Sunday’s final will see the Duke sophomore, who now owns an overall record of 8-1, take on Max Kan of host Wake Forest.

Freshman TJ Pura will compete in the consolation final of the B1 singles draw after dispatching Liberty’s Dillon Segur by scores of 6-3, 6-3 Saturday. Meanwhile sophomore Daniel McCall took the first set of his match against Thomas Weigel of NC State but ultimately fell, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, in the A2 fifth-place bracket.

In doubles, Hammond and Levine battled to a tiebreaker against Liberty’s duo of Shea Thomas and Jorge Azuero but suffered an 8-7 (4) setback. The Duke tandem then rebounded with an 8-4 victory against Nelson Vick and Stuart DePaolo of North Carolina in the fifth-place bracket of the A doubles draw.

Pura and McCall also took part in the quarterfinals of the A draw, dropping a tough 8-6 decision to top-seeded Brett Clark and Esben Hess-Olesen of the Tar Heels before defeating Furman’s pair of Alex Christ and Matt Browne in the fifth-place bracket, 8-6.
