Beatrice Capra won her fourth straight singles match at the Riviera/ITA All-American on her way to advancing to the final 16 of the main draw at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Duke University sophomore
Capra, who is out of Ellicott City, Md., registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory over 21st-ranked Natalie Beazant of Rice on Wednesday and will face 12th-ranked Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State on Friday in the final 16. The match will begin at 1:45 p.m.
In her first action of the Riviera/ITA All-American, senior Hanna Mar went up against sixth-ranked Emma Burgic of Baylor in the round of 32. Mar, a native of Burr Ridge, Ill., lost 5-7, 2-6. In the singles consolation bracket, Mar will next go up against 29th-ranked Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine
Duke’s doubles tandem of Ester Goldfeld and Annie Mulholland collected an 8-7 (7-2) win over 14th-ranked Li Xi and Stephanie Nauta of Virginia in the first round of the main draw. Goldfeld/Mulholland then went up against Texas Tech’s ninth-ranked Kenna Kilgo and Samantha Adams in their second match of the day. The Duke duo battled hard but fell, 8-6.
Friday’s single action features the final 16 and elite eight matches.
