CARY, N.C. – The Duke tandem of sophomore Bruno Semenzato and TJ Pura captured a doubles title and three players advanced to finals matches in singles Saturday on the second day of play at the Duke Fab Four Invitational, held at the Cary Tennis Park.

The top-seeded pair in the white doubles draw, Semenzato and Pura earned a matchup in the final with VCU’s Wilder Pimentel and Michal Voscek. The Blue Devil duo combined for an 8-6 victory over the Rams, claiming one of three doubles titles in their debut as a tandem.

In other doubles action, sophomores Michael Redlicki and Daniel McCall topped Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy of South Florida in the consolation final of the blue draw, 8-4. In the black doubles draw, the second-seeded duo of senior Fred Saba and junior Raphael Hemmeler  battled to a 9-8 (7-3) win over Nicholas Sayer and Patrick O’Keefe of Radford to place third in the bracket. Redshirt junior Cale Hammond and sophomore Josh Levine rounded out the 4-0 morning for Duke by taking third on the consolation side of the black draw with an 8-2 defeat of VCU’s Alejandro Argente and Jean Baptiste Mateo.

Saturday’s action in Cary also featured two rounds of singles matches, with the Blue Devils posting a collective record of 11-4 across the three draws.

In the black draw, Levine battled to a pair of three-set victories to reach Sunday’s title match. The native of Syosset, N.Y., upended fourth-seeded Argente of VCU in the quarterfinals and edged North Carolina’s Oystein Steiro in the semifinals to set up a finals showdown Sunday with Voscek of VCU.

Semenzato advanced to the blue draw final, dispatching NC State’s Beck Bond, 7-5, 7-5, and Wake Forest’s Anthony Delcore, 7-6 (4), 6-4, on his way to tomorrow’s tilt against fifth-ranked Romain Bogaerts of Wake Forest. Meanwhile, 22nd-ranked Redlicki gave Duke its third spot in a singles final, as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nicholas Osterline of Wake Forest in the quarterfinals and outlasted Nick Horton of NC State in the semifinals, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3.

Sunday’s singles contests will see No. 26 Saba battle for third place in the black bracket and Pura face No. 47 Sebastien Stiefelmeyer of Louisville in the black draw consolation final. Hammond will also compete in a consolation final in the blue draw while No. 49 Hemmeler is slated to take on Louisville’s Van Damrongsri for seventh place in the same bracket. McCall will vie for seventh place in the white draw against Osterline of Wake Forest.

The men’s doubles finals will get underway at 10:30 a.m. in Cary Sunday morning.
