GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Led by 15 kills from All-American Chloe Mann, No. 9 Florida handed the Duke volleyball team its first loss of the 2013 season as the Blue Devils fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18) Saturday afternoon in its final match of the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational.
Mann did not commit an error on 23 attempts, hitting .652 for the match. She was one of two Florida (3-0) players in double digit kills, joined by Ziva Recek who knocked down 10 kills on 25 errorless attempts. As a team, Florida hit .415 while limiting the Blue Devils to a .198 hitting percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Sklar earned all-tournament team honors after leading Duke (2-1) with 12 kills, committing just one error on 26 chances. For the weekend, Sklar totaled a team-high 25 kills, hitting .384, to go along with 13 digs.
Junior outside hitter Jeme Obeime chipped in with nine kills, followed by senior Chelsea Cook and sophomore Elizabeth Campbell with seven apiece. Senior libero Ali McCurdy added 12 digs, bringing her weekend total to 35.
Next up, Duke travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Diet Coke Classic Sept. 6-7. The Blue Devils square off against Western Illinois, Ball State and No. 6 Minnesota over the second weekend of competition.
