COLLEGE PARK, Md.—Duke redshirt junior Immanuel Kerr-Brown remained undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference wrestling as the Blue Devils fell to Maryland in a dual 37-7 this evening at Comcast Center Pavilion.

Duke (6-11, 0-4 ACC) got off to a fast start with a decision Kerr-Brown and a major decision by redshirt sophomore Marcus Cain to take the 7-0 lead. Maryland (6-8, 2-3 ACC) answered with consecutive pins en route to its second conference win.

Kerr-Brown, unbeaten by ACC foes and 12-4 in duals this year, cruised to the 5-2 decision over Ben Dorsay. Duke’s 157-pounder scored the first takedown with 34 seconds left in the first period. Dorsay quickly responded with a reversal, but Kerr-Brown escaped moments later for the 3-2 advantage after three minutes. Holding a one-point edge, Kerr-Brown never looked back, scored an escape in the second period and rode the match out in the third for his career-best 20th win of the year.

At 165 pounds, Cain scored an early takedown and never relinquished control of the match. Building over two minutes of riding time in the first period, the Winston-Salem, N.C. , native used a pair of takedowns in the second for a 6-1 lead and added four more points in the final stanza for his first major decision of the year and 10th overall win. He is now 1-3 in ACC action and 3-4 for his career in conference duals.

Maryland grabbed pins from Matthew Snook and No. 1 Jimmy Sheptock at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively, setting up a rematch at 197 between No. 8 Christian Boley and Duke’s Conner Hartmann.

Ranked 19th and riding a four-match win streak, Hartmann was looking to avenge last season’s losses to Boley in the ACC Championships and NCAA Championships. As expected, the match was tight throughout the seven minutes with neither wrestler being able to score any shots early.

Boley scored first with an escape in the second period and Hartman matched that in the third to set up an exciting final 1:56. Less than 30 seconds later Boley got a takedown for the 3-1 lead. Duke’s 197-pounder quickly escaped to make it 3-2, but was unable to find the winning takedown as he fell to Boley by a single point. It is the third straight match between them to be decided by two or fewer points.

Maryland added victories in the final five bouts, including narrow triumphs over Duke rookies Xaviel Ramos and Connor Bass at 141 and 149 pounds.

Duke continues its ACC schedule Tuesday at North Carolina. The dual is set for 7 p.m., and can be seen on ESPN3.
