DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team scored five runs in the third and three in the seventh en route to a 10-3 non-conference victory over visiting Richmond in its final home game of the season Tuesday evening at Jack Coombs Field.

All nine in the Duke (31-21, 15-12 ACC) starting lineup recorded at least one hit as the Blue Devils totaled 13 hits for the game, including three triples. Senior Matt Berezo tied a career high with three RBI, belting a two-run triple in the third and adding a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Berezo was one of three Blue Devils to register two hits in the game along with senior Jordan Betts and redshirt junior Chris Marconcini.  Betts went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Marconcini was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk.

Richmond (22-25-1) got on the board early, scoring an unearned run in the first off Duke starter Kevin Lewallyn (3-1). Jansen Fraser sent a leadoff double to right, advanced to third on an error and crossed home on a Matt Dacey sacrifice fly. Lewallyn pitched four innings in the win, allowing just one hit and the lone unearned run.

The lead did not last the inning as Duke scored two runs in the bottom half. Junior Andy Perez walked, took second on a balk and made it to third on a Betts’ base hit. Perez would ultimately score on a wild pitch and Betts came home on an Aaron Cohn RBI fielder’s choice.

A Betts double began a five-run third for the Blue Devils to break the game open. Betts, the ACC active leader with 66 career doubles, fired a shot down the left field line to ignite the offense. After a Marconcini walk, Berezo drilled his first triple of the season to score the pair. Senior Mike Rosenfeld then beat out a squeeze-play bunt to keep the rally going prior to a Deitrich RBI triple to the right center gap. Duke’s fifth and final run crossed the plate on a Kenny Koplove sacrifice fly.

Fraser’s two-run double in the seventh cut the margin to 7-3. Richmond’s second extra base hit of the night scored JB Gadd and Nick Poulis, who walked and singled, respectively.

Duke eliminated the chance of a Spider comeback with three runs in the bottom portion of the seventh. Cohn tripled for the first time in his career and Berezo drove him in with a fly ball to left. After Rosenfeld walked and Deitrich was hit by a pitch, Koplove and senior Mark Lumpa both added RBI base knocks to put Duke up by seven.

Richmond starter Robbie Baker (1-2) suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs on six hits over three innings of work.

Duke concludes the regular season with a three-game series at No. 4 Florida State Thursday-Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.
