KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Jordan Long turned in an impressive performance in the men's 3-meter springboard diving competition to lead Duke on the second day of action at the 2013 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships.

Long totaled 724.40 points to place third overall in Tuesday's 3-meter final, marking the best finish of his career at a Zones meet. The Grosse Pointe, Mich., native posted a score of 376.95 in the preliminary round and increased his total by earning 347.45 points in the final to take third. His third dive of the event final saw him garner an award of 69.75 points from the judges on a forward 3 ½ somersault in the pike position for his highest-scoring dive of the day.

With one event remaining - the men's platform event - Long sits in sixth place overall on the Zone B priority list, with the top five divers advancing to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

"Jordan did a phenomenal job and gave himself the best chance possible to make NCAAs," said diving coach Drew Johansen. "He really fought well through the whole competition with some amazing dives and brought the field close to him again to finish the day strong."

Junior Nick McCrory and freshman Deon Reid joined Long in qualifying for the men's 3-meter final Tuesday. McCrory came in 10th with a total score of 657.95 one day after locking up a trip to the NCAA Championships with his first-place finish on the 1-meter board. Reid continued what has been a strong start to his collegiate diving career, earning 648.40 points in his second finals appearance in as many days.

"Deon really made an impression on all the coaches here, getting into a final as a freshman in both the 1 and 3-meter events," Johansen said. "It really sets him up well for the next three years."

Sophomore Clay Pinckney competed in the preliminaries of the men's 3-meter event, registering a mark of 275.00 to finish 23rd.

In the women's 1-meter preliminaries Tuesday morning, freshman Kendall McClenney took 19th with a score of 250.05.

The remaining qualifying spots for the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be decided Wednesday following the men's and women's platform events. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Live video and live results will be available throughout the day.
