St. George and Williams will represent Duke at the championships March 27-30 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. The veteran duo will be joined by at least two Blue Devil men’s divers – senior Evan Moretti and junior Nathaniel Hernandez – who punched their tickets to Austin this week at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in Auburn, Ala.
Both St. George and Williams will be making their NCAA Championships debuts in Austin. St. George is seeded 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke and also eligible to compete in the 200 backstroke and 50 freestyle with NCAA provisional cuts in those events. The senior from Wheaton, Ill., advanced to finals in all three events at last month’s ACC Championships, racing to a seventh-place showing in the 100 backstroke.
Williams was selected to the NCAA field in the 100 freestyle, garnering a top-25 seed in the event. He also owns NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 50 and 200 freestyle after scoring for the Blue Devils in all three events at ACCs. Williams was fifth in the 100 freestyle, 11th at the 200-yard distance and 13th at the 50-yard distance.
The Duke men will send representatives to the NCAA Championships for the 10th consecutive season and the 17th time overall. Historically, Duke men’s swimmers and divers have totaled 18 individual All-America honors under the watch of head coach Dan Colella.
Hernandez (platform diving) and Moretti (one-meter diving) both collected honorable mention All-America accolades to help the Blue Devils tie for 33rd in the final team standings at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
