DURHAM, N.C. – After claiming its second ACC Crew of the Week recognition last week, the Duke rowing team looks to keep its early season success rolling in Charlottesville, Va., in the Big Ten/ACC Dual.

Of the two regattas and 10 races the Blue Devils have competed in this season, eight have resulted in first-place finishes. Duke swept the event sheet at the Carolina Cup, winning all five races and taking first place with an overall score of 90. Two weeks later, at the Cooper Sprints in Cherry Hill, N.J., the Blue Devils won three of five events and placed three boats in second-place.

On March 13, Duke earned its first of two ACC Crew of the Week nods, as the 2V4 group of Sarah Royka (Cox), Kiernan Spencer (Stroke), Amelia Johnson, Maya Blake and Amelia Shunk (Bow), clocked a first-place time of 7:58.2 at the Carolina Cup, 21 seconds faster than second-place North Carolina. Two weeks later (March 28), Duke earned its second ACC Crew of the Week honor, as the 2V8 boat of Tara Fagan (Cox), Lelia Boley (Stroke), Reed Kenny, Spencer, Sydney Cikovic, Meera Chakrabarti, Rhea Bergman, Laura Navarrete and Gabriella Salvati (Bow) took first out of 15 schools on the Cherry River in the Cooper Sprints, clocking a time of 6:39.06, nearly three seconds faster than second-place SMU.

“We’re excited to head to Lake Monticello for a great round of racing,” said head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno. “Ohio State and Michigan set the bar for consistent top end speed. We’re looking forward to working on our racing.”

No. 6 Michigan and No. 7 Ohio State represent the Big Ten, while No. 17 Syracuse, No. 10 Virginia and Duke represent the ACC in the dual. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m.
