CLEMSON, S.C. - A pair of first half goals would do the trick for the Duke woman's soccer program Friday night, as the Blue Devils took down Clemson, 2-1, in an exhibition match at Riggs Field.
Duke's first goal came just 3:35 into the match, as the Blue Devils drew a penalty kick. Junior Chelsea Burns would bury the PK attempt to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 advantage.
Clemson got one back eight minutes later, as Jeni Erickson headed one home off a corner to cut Duke's lead to 2-1. However, the Blue Devil defense held strong, keeping the Tigers off the board and securing the 2-1 victory.
Duke reeled off 10 shots to Clemson's five, with six on goal. The Tigers only put two of their shots on goal.
Head coach Robbie Church and the Blue Devils will now turn their attention to the season opener on Friday, Aug. 18 against North Carolina in the UNC Nike Classic. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., in Cary, N.C.
