DETROIT, Mich. - On Wednesday following the Quick Lane Bowl press conference, Blue Devil Network's Dave Harding interviewed head coach David Cutcliffe and Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey to preview the Detroit bowl matchup on December 26 at Ford Field.

Cutcliffe will participate in the 27th bowl game of his coaching career against Northern Illinois. As an assistant coach, he helped Tennessee to 17 bowl games (11-6) while also guiding Ole Miss (5; 4-1) and Duke (5; 1-3) to bowls as a head coach. This will be the first meeting on the gridiron between the Blue Devils and Northern Illinois.

Carey has guided the Huskies an 8-4 record this season. NIU features MAC Defensive Player of the Year Sutton Smith as the defense ranks in the top 25 nationally in nine categories, including rushing defense (11th) and total defense (18th). NIU leads the nation in tackles for loss and is second in team sacks. Offensively, quarterback Marcus Childers was named the league's freshman of the year after throwing for 1,440 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 454 ground yards and five scores.

Northern Illinois and Duke will meet on Tuesday, December 26 at 5:15 p.m. and the contest will be televised by ESPN. Tickets may be purchased at GoDuke.com.
